This article today is to describe a couple of usefulSports Medicine sites and why I try to use them as much as possible when looking at Sports Medicine. Throughout my site I have tried to make sure that there are useful Sports Medicine links that can help you to extend your study, knowledge, understanding and application further than is provided on my site. This includes references or simply links at the end of the page (though not all pages have them).

useful sports medicine sites ACSM

Useful Sports Medicine Sites – ACSM

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is probably the leading body for research and information for sports medicine and sports science globally. They publish academic books, Journals and much more that are used by Universities around the world, including Australia. Although much of what they produce is at the University level and their front page may not seem to have a lot of relevant information, they have plenty of content that is useful.

The sections of the site that are useful for Sports Medicine include:

  • Search by topic under the “public information” tab on the far right. Topics listed here include the demands of specific athletes such as women, aged and youth. As well as nutrition and injury prevention guidelines.
  • Brochures and fact sheets again under the “public information” tab on the far right.
    • The brochures cover a host of information including children and young athletes, concussion in sports, Asthma, return to play, and much more.
    • The fact sheets also cover a wide range of topics including some from Improving Performance and Factors Affecting Performance. These fact sheets cover eating disorders, pregnancy guidelines, heat and hydration, and much more.

This is not only very useful Sports Medicine site, it is up to date and backed by research. So you know the information is correct.

Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) are another useful Sports Medicine site. This site is essentially the Australian version of the ACSM, but does not branch as much into the exercise and sports science. This sites most useful sections are under the “resources and advice” tab. Here there is plenty of information around specific injuries, sports, and policies and guidelines.

The “publications and media” tab also contains some useful pages, such as their position statements, though the main one here is for concussion.
