To round out our series on useful sites, today I’m going to have a look at a few useful sites for Health Priorities in Australia. These sites are ones I used to gather much of the information to create the content for you on Health Priorities.

The first of our useful sites for Health Priorities is the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The ABS is THE place to go for the latest statistics on all things Australian. They conduct the National Health Survey every few years providing the relevant statistics for the Australian Government. The most recent survey wis dated 2014-2015, the first results of which can be found here. There is even a short summary video. You can find other relevant surveys conducted by ABS here.

The second of the useful sites for Health Priorities is the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW). This useful website has two (2) relevant publication along with a whole host of information that can be found online. The publications are released biannually (every 2 years) and are: Australia’s Health and Australia’s Welfare (both in full and in brief).  Both of these can be found under the publications tab.

You will also note that there are a host of other publications here, which focus in on particular areas such as: the burden of disease, diabetes, cancer, and the national health priority areas. Each these are useful sites for Health Priorities. There is plenty of information provided under the data tab also looking at population groups and health priority areas.

The Department of Health (DoH) is another of the useful sites for Health Priorities. It has information about the strategies being used, particularly for the ATSI health gap. They also provide publications an various aspects of health.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) is also an important and useful site for Health Priorities in Australia. Of particular relevance is their information on the Ottawa Charter. WHO also provide information on the health of Australia and links to the Australian health database for those of you who love statistics.
