Complementary and alternative health care approaches
Complementary and alternative health care approaches have become more and more widely used amongst Australians. There is a very large range of complementary and alternative health care approaches and the lack of regulation with regards to some complementary and alternative health care means a critical approach is required, however, such a critical approach should be applied to all health care approaches.
The HSC PDHPE syllabus requires that you understand the reasons for the growth in these complementary and alternative health care approaches, as well as the range of products available. You will also need to be aware of the various complementary and alternative services provided. The critical aspect of this dot point though, comes under “how to make informed consumer choices”. Although this is important for complementary and alternative health care, these skills and the process used to make an informed consumer choice should be used for every consumer choice for all health care and other care you may choose to use.
